SUNY Potsdam internships are credit-bearing experiences undertaken during fall, spring, summer, and winter terms. Each year, a few hundred students complete internships toward their degree work, and our valued employer partnerships make this possible. We collaborate with on campus and local employers as well as statewide, national, and international employers (including remote placements). Strengthening and growing our internship site connections means ensuring a valuable internship experience for site and student alike. Please use the following employer resources and reach out to Max Grube, Internship Coordinator, with any questions you might have.
The Internship Guide for Employers (PDF) is a useful reference for hosting interns at your site, building an internship program, internship best practices, etc. This resource is especially helpful for new internship sites!
We are thankful to the outstanding students, faculty, and community partners who made the Presidential Internship Program (PIP) a success in Summer 2025.
The PIP will run again in Summer 2026! New program information is forthcoming and will be available on our PIP page.
If you're interested in building an internship program at your site, please complete the Employer-Internship Site Request Form. This preliminary information helps us understand your site's needs, and we can better match potential interns with your site during advising sessions. We also use this form to add your site and contact info to our internship database.
SUNY Potsdam uses Handshake to process all credit-bearing internships. Employers can create Handshake company profiles, which help connect students to internships and jobs at a particular company/organization. We recommend including the following info for company profiles: Full name of employer, physical address (or description of site if work is remote), site contact(s), link to website, detailed employer summary, description of internship positions/tasks, and any other relevant information to help students identify you as a potential internship site.
The following Handshake links will help employers get started:
- Getting Started with Handshake: Employers
- How to Edit Your Company Profile Settings
- How to Post a Job (and/or Internship)
Note: There is a difference between an Employer (user) profile and a Company profile. While the Employer profile provides Handshake access, the Company profile helps students browse internships and jobs at a particular site.
We welcome employers to our annual Career and Internship Networking Fair, which occurs in the spring semester. Please visit this Career Services page to learn more.
Internship benefits of attending the fair
Aside from recruiting potential employees, employers who attend the fair can also speak with students seeking internship opportunities. The fair serves as a direct connection to students who are exploring different site options in their discipline. We encourage students from across campus to attend (regardless of year) so that they can learn about internships with various employers and better plan their degree path with that information in mind.
