When is CYM?
June 25 - July 8
When can I register?
Registration should open by January 9, call the CLEAR office or register online (x2167) or www.potsdam.edu/cym
Can I arrive late?
Please discuss your situation with CYM Director (kirkj@potsdam.edu) - we can accommodate some late arrivals but no discounts are given. You will have to pre-record your audition to submit to faculty
Can I leave early?
Early departure will affect ensemble placements and no refunds/discounts are given for early departures.
My child will turn 12 during or just after CYM, can I still attend?
Please submit 2 letters to the CYM Director:
- Parent letter stating child is mature enough to be away from home for 2 weeks and participate in all camp activities
- Teacher letter stating that child is advanced and mature enough to participate in CYM – must have at least 2 years of experience playing instrument/singing.
My child plays 2 instruments, can they study both?
Students must declare one “Major” area of study. Campers have attended and done the following:
- Attended as a vocalist – played instrument in jazz group
- Attended as wind instrumentalist – sung in choir but would miss like-ensemble or orchestra
- Attended on one instrument – taken 1 lesson on other area pending instructor availability (instrumental, voice, piano, harp)
- Attended as a clarinetist – played saxophone in jazz
- Attended as a tuba player – played trombone in jazz
- Please discuss options with CYM Director Dr. Julianne Doyle
My child plays the drums – what opportunities do they have?
All Percussionists will play in concert bands with standard percussion instruments required by the repertoire, Percussion ensemble and have the opportunity to audition for Jazz Band. CYM will provide drum sets for the two jazz groups. CYM is not a “drum set only” camp.
My child can’t read music, can they participate?
All students at CYM need to have 2-years experience in their area and be able to read music or they will have a hard time in the ensemble setting. No music is sent out ahead of time as ensemble placements are assigned the first day of camp based on auditions.
