Dedication Ceremony Honoring Dr. Charles L. Smith

Dr. Charles L. Smith joined the Mathematics faculty at SUNY Potsdam in 1959. Throughout his 36-year tenure, Dr. Smith served in many capacities including department chair. In 1974, Dr. Smith was honored with SUNY’s highest award, the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. Colleagues and students admired Dr. Smith for his love of mathematics as well as his ability to help others enjoy and understand its beauty. Alumni and friends have established two scholarships in honor of Dr. Smith, both in support of students studying mathematics.
