A week of lab band will typically include 1-2 different lessons. The central idea is that each lesson is well planned out and a lot of fun. This is a great place to experiment with some very creative ideas for your future as an educator. Take advantage of this opportunity! Some ideas include:
- Modern band discussion/jam
- Learn something by rote/by ear. This could be a popular song, a jingle, an improvisatory exercise, etc.
- Secondary instrument practice and lessons
- Instrument repair overviews
- Conducting experiences (with themes?)
- Seminar about student teaching experiences
- Student composition readings
- Musical bonding experiences
