Join TESA for an engaging and practical workshop designed specifically for education majors who want to feel more confident supporting the mental and emotional well-being of their future students. As mental health challenges among school-aged children continue to rise, educators play a critical role in early identification, compassionate response, and connection to support systems.
We are excited to welcome a TESA alum as our presenter, who has since transitioned into the field of nursing, bringing a unique, interdisciplinary perspective on student mental health and well-being. This session offers a valuable opportunity to learn from someone who understands both educational and healthcare approaches to supporting children.
In this workshop, participants will learn how to recognize common signs and symptoms of anxiety, depression, and behavioral distress in children, with an emphasis on how these challenges may present in classroom settings. The session will also explore the teacher’s role in early identification—clarifying what is appropriate for educators to observe, document, and communicate—while outlining effective referral pathways within a school system. In addition, the workshop will highlight mental health resources available within the local community, helping future educators understand how to connect students and families with essential support. Participants will also be introduced to trauma-informed classroom strategies that promote emotional safety, build trust, and foster resilience among students. You’ll leave with practical tools you can apply during field placements and in your future classroom.
To wrap up the event, unwind and connect with peers during a bracelet-making craft activity—a fun and creative way to reflect, relax, and build community.
This workshop is ideal for education majors at all levels who are committed to creating supportive, inclusive, and responsive learning environments.
Come prepared to learn, reflect, create, and build skills that truly make a difference.
