The Crane School of Music is accepting on-line applications for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor of Music Education [Associate Director of Bands] to begin fall 2019. The selected candidate will conduct concert band(s) within the instrumental program; teach conducting; teach courses in instrumental music education appropriate to candidate’s credentials and experience, and as assigned; create and teach other courses in specialty area(s) to complement the curriculum as interests, schedule, and load allow. The Associate Director of Bands is expected to engage in activities that promote the school to prospective students, maintain an ongoing commitment to professional development in creative and/or research activity, contribute to student advising, and perform other service activities appropriate to the appointment.
Required qualifications include a completed Master’s degree in an appropriate musical discipline, and minimum ABD status in appropriate doctoral program (completed Ph.D. required for tenure); and communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues. Preferred qualifications include a completed Ph.D. in area appropriate to the appointment; successful K-12 teaching experience; successful college-level teaching experience; successful experience programming for, rehearsing, and leading wind bands; additional experience with other ensemble configurations; experience teaching techniques and pedagogy courses in instrumental music education; work, research or teaching involving underrepresented groups; and collaborative work across various departments in fostering the success of underrepresented groups.
