Director of Student Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives Vacancy

The Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DDEI) is committed to fostering an inclusive and welcoming campus experience, in line with the mission of the State University of New York (SUNY) Potsdam. The DDEI invites on-line applications for the position of Director of Student Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives.

The Director is a vital member of the administrative team of the Division, and reports to the Associate Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer.  The Director of Student Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives provides administrative, operational, and programming leadership direction for the College’s Center for Diversity (CFD). The Director works with CFD staff to foster a safe, welcoming and nurturing environment for all students, with a particular focus on students from historically underrepresented and marginalized communities. The Director will also assist in the Division’s efforts to implement and assess the College’s DEI Strategic Plan; notably, as related to the retention/persistence and completion of underrepresented students. 

Job requirements and essential functions of the job: Coordinate and supervise the activities of the staff of the CFD; Collaborate with the Office of Admissions to foster recruitment of historically underrepresented students; Work in close collaboration with the Directors of Bridges, Trio Program, EOP and the Student Success Center to develop and implement programs/initiatives to foster the retention and college experience of historically underrepresented students; Provide Leadership in organizing diversity and inclusion activities for all SUNY Potsdam students; Serve on various campus and community committees and advisory groups; Represent the Division, as needed, at relevant campus and off-campus events; and perform other duties as assigned. 

Required qualifications:  Bachelor’s Degree and at least five years of relevant full-time professional/progressively responsible experience related to diversity and inclusion; Excellent organizational, analytical, and report writing skills; and Ability to create and maintain collaborative working relationships with administrators, faculty, staff, and internal and external partners. We are seeking candidates who possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues and who have demonstrated a commitment to creating, fostering and sustaining an inclusive environment. 

Preferred qualifications:  Master’s degree in higher education administration or a related field; At least three years of higher education administration and supervision experience; Experience gathering, editing, analyzing, and interpreting data and statistical reports; and Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.  We are, especially, seeking candidates who have engaged in professional development activities to enhance knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion and have worked collaboratively across various departments in fostering success of underrepresented groups and a supportive and inclusive environment for all.
