Director of Student Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives Vacancy

SUNY Potsdam's Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DDEI), committed to fostering an inclusive and welcoming campus experience, is accepting on-line applications for a Director of Student Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives.

The Director is a vital member of the administrative team of the Division, and reports to the Associate Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer. The Director works to foster a safe, welcoming and nurturing environment for all students, with a focus on students from historically underrepresented and marginalized communities. The Director is also responsible for the development and coordination of programs that assist in the recruitment, retention/persistence and completion of these students. The Director is tasked with creating campus-wide diversity and inclusion programs and events, including the celebration of various heritage months. The Director will also assist in the Division’s efforts to implement and assess the College’s DEI Strategic Plan; notably, as related to the retention/persistence and completion of underrepresented students. 

Required qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree in student services, or other social science field and at least seven years of successful relevant full-time professional/ progressive experience in a leadership and/or supervisory role directly related to DEI in higher education; experience in creating, assessing and analyzing retention/persistence and new DEI related initiatives with proven examples; excellent organizational, analytical, and report writing skills; high standard of ethics/integrity consistent with the position; demonstrated vision on the changing needs of students from underrepresented backgrounds in higher education; experience creating and maintaining collaborative working relationships with administrators, faculty, staff and external partners. 

Preferred qualifications:  Master’s degree in student personnel services, communication studies or other social sciences field with at least five years of successful relevant full-time professional/ progressive experience in a leadership and/or supervisory role related to DEI in higher education; experience in collecting, assessing and analyzing retention and other data and implementing meaningful actions with progressive outcomes; experience in creating action plans with tangible, measurable outcomes/indicators; experience in grant writing with proven success in acquisition of grants; strong organizational, project management and problem solving skills; ability to think critically and creatively and have a high standard of integrity; and ability to manage multiple projects and effectively complete projects with tight deadlines.
