March 17: New Telecommuting Policy

March 17, 2020

As was announced yesterday, a new Telecommuting Pilot Program designed to help limit the spread of COVID-19 has been approved, through agreements with CSEA, PEF and UUP. The policy also applies to M/C employees. The pilot will remain in effect until Thursday, May 14.

As a reminder, the Governor has issued a directive ordering all non-essential New York State employees not to report to work for the next two weeks. From today through March 31, or until further notice, non-essential employees shall work from home, to the extent practicable.

If you are a CSEA, M/C, PEF or UUP employee, and are currently considered an essential employee for the purposes of the COVID-19 response, and want to telecommute immediately because you are considered high risk for health reasons, please respond to this email and I will guide you through the process. Any employee identified in the affiliations above that wants to begin the telecommute process should review the guidelines and begin working with their supervisor.

There is an application for the Telecommute Program, requiring the employee to complete a work plan with tangible tasks that can be completed from home. This application must be approved by the supervisor and the President’s Council representative. The complete application must be submitted to Human Resources for final processing.

Thank you for your flexibility and understanding during these difficult times.

Sincerely,

Melissa E. Proulx
