My teaching and research are driven by a commitment to creating learning spaces grounded in love, compassion, and equity, where students feel safe to take risks, embrace uncertainty, and engage deeply with mathematical thinking without fear of being wrong. My scholarship sits at the intersection of mathematics education, the learning sciences, and feminist inquiry. I investigate mathematics learning across both formal and informal contexts, asking how people encounter, develop, and express mathematical thinking in classrooms, teacher preparation programs, and everyday life.
In formal contexts, my work centers on social justice and epistemological pluralism, interrogating who gets to count as a mathematician, whose ways of knowing are valued, and how schooling has historically excluded women and other marginalized communities from full participation in mathematical life. I am also engaged in understanding how generative AI is reshaping instructional practices and what that means for equity in mathematics classrooms.
In informal contexts, my research is situated within crafting circles, where fabric crafts emerge as profound mathematical environments that carry rich and complex models of mathematical thinking embedded within them.
