Policy on Course Loads for Undergraduate Students
The following policies apply for fall and spring semesters to students in all three schools: Arts and Sciences, Education and Professional Studies, and The Crane School of Music.
- Part-time = 0-11 semester hours
- Full-time = 12-19 semester hours (including P.E. experiences)
- Overload = above 19 semester hours (including P.E. experiences)
Overload Policy Defined
- The overload cannot exceed 21 hours. In extraordinary circumstances deans may consider exceptions to this policy.
- The minimum GPA to apply for an overload is 3.0.
- Only sophomores, juniors and seniors may apply for an overload.
- Overloads can be entered in the Registrar's Office after the end of the initial registration period each semester.
Overrides
If a student is trying to enroll in a course for which they do not meet the prerequisite or are receiving any other course-related registration errors, they may be eligible for an override. Note that overrides for time conflicts are not permitted. Learn More
