COVID-19 Update: New adjustments to campus restrictions and case update

March 4, 2021

Dear Students,

We have more good news to share with you this week, and it is because of your continued efforts. We conducted approximately 2,000 surveillance tests this week and all tests (both students and employees) were negative. We did have a handful of positive tests as a result of symptomatic testing in Student Health Services. However, our cases are decreasing and our 14-day rolling positive rate is .15%, which is amazing!

Your diligence and hard work are evident in these numbers. You continue to wear masks, social distance, and avoid attending social gatherings.  You are to be congratulated for your efforts and we just ask that you continue to keep it up.

As a result of this news, the Athletics Department is excited to announce that they are planning on reopening the Shane T. Shaul Fitness Center in Maxcy Hall on Monday, March 8, only for students. We will begin with morning weekday hours and will consider additional hours as the semester progresses. If you are interested in using the Fitness Center, you can sign up for a time here. Students must:

  • Show that you have completed your daily symptoms tracker and have a green status
  • Check-in using your event tracker QR Code like you do for testing
  • Wear your mask the entire time
  • Clean each piece of equipment after you use it, following the instructions provided to you
  • Bring your own water bottle as water fountains are closed

The first spring semester break day is this Tuesday, March 9.  There will be no academic classes happening this day. Particularly on this day, please make sure that you take time for yourself. This is a good day to focus on your physical and mental well-being. Whether it be taking a long walk, binging your favorite Netflix show, or sleeping in late, we encourage you to focus on you.

You are truly remarkable.

Thanks,

Eric D. Duchscherer
Interim Dean of Students
