For our incoming freshmen, we offer optional first-year programs (called the Archaeology FIG and the Discovering Cultures FIG) that have students with the same interest in archaeology and anthropology taking the same classes and/or living in the same dorm. This experience helps to create strong bonds among our majors, who continue to have shared experiences throughout their time at Potsdam.
Regardless of whether you are a freshman or a transfer student, this kind of community is also nurtured by our:
- Anthropology Club
- Atlatl team
- And our student-run journal, the Collegiate Anthropologist
- Departmental Awards
All of these opportunities bring together students excited about archaeology and anthropology, and they provide opportunities for support (both among students and between students and faculty) that help students move successfully through the program.
