About the Organization
The North Country Children’s Museum is a non-profit organization. They are Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEAM). The museum hopes to encourage children and their caregivers to learn about STEAM through hands-on learning and play.
Duties
In the first half of the internship, I worked 9 a.m. - 5:15 p.m., Wednesdays - Sundays. For the second half, I worked 8 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays.
I helped run the front desk and checked in visitors. I also made sure that the museum was cleaned, and the supplies were fully stocked. When I was a camp assistant, I helped watch over the campers and instructed lessons.
Summary
My internship was with the North Country Children’s Museum. I was an educational intern. I was able to do this program through the Presidential Internship Program (PIP). Therefore, my internship was able to be paid. For the first half of my internship, I helped out with the front desk and ran pop-up activities for the kids to do. Following this, I worked as an assistant camp educator for Science Technology and Engineering (STEAM) camps. While working at these camps I helped teach hands-on STEAM lessons to K-12 campers. I wanted to be able to work with kids and this internship gave me the ability to do so. The camps that I taught varied, some were science while some were art. I learned that I really enjoy working with kids. It is very fulfilling work to help kids and see them learn. During one of our summer camps I instructed an activity that I had planned and created. The lesson had to do with river flooding, so I liked using my Environmental Studies knowledge to create the lesson. It was so great to see that the campers were having a fun time with this project, and were learning a lot.
