About the Organization
Beaver Lake Nature Center is 661 acres of natural area in Baldwinsville New York. Ten miles (16 km) of trails allow people to explore the diverse habitats which can be found at the center. It also serves as an environmental educational facility with as many as 12,000 school children visiting each year. The year-round operation of the facility makes the outdoor experience available to a wide range of people.
Duties
I worked 8 hours per day, Tuesday through Saturday. On Tuesday-Friday, I would start at 6:30 a.m. and work until 3 p.m. and on Saturdays I worked Noon-8:30 p.m. I got paid 15 dollars an hour. Each day I would spend the majority of my days clearing overgrown trails, repairing the trails from storm damage and making sure the visitors to the park would be able to have an enjoyable experience.
Summary
This summer I worked at Beaver Lake Nature center as a Grounds and Maintenance Crew Member. I spent the majority of my days clearing over grown trails, repairing trails that had been damaged from storms and even got to make a new trail in the park. I worked with a team of people almost every day to accomplish these tasks and had a great time doing it! My further plans may include me pursuing park management or other outdoor recreation activities.
