In collaboration with the New York City Coalition for Teacher Preparation, SUNY Potsdam's School of Education and the Center for School Partnerships and Teacher Certification, becomes the first within the SUNY system to offer teacher candidates a robust student teaching experience at a NYC high-performing school. Each candidate's experientially-rich training will be supported by a skilled principal, a cooperating teacher, and the university supervisor. This collaborative network will be devoted to the teacher candidate's gradual release towards greater independence and optimal professional development.
Through placement within a NYC high-performing school, the teacher candidate will experience an urban educational setting that focuses on implementing Culturally Responsive teaching and learning, meeting the differentiated needs of diverse learners, and supporting English Language Learners' access to academic success. Upon completion of one's student teaching experience, the NYC Department of Education will support the candidate in navigating the application process for open teaching positions.
