Minor in Biology
SUNY Potsdam's Department of Biology offers opportunities for student learning through a rich educational experience with a strong foundation in content knowledge and the development of higher-level cognitive skills through speaking, writing, and research. The department is dedicated to student learning by providing:
- Broad exposure to a range of biological topics with a foundation in National and State Science Standards.
- A wealth of speaking and writing intensive options for students within the department.
- Opportunities for students to engage in biological research.
- A classroom and laboratory experience founded on a variety of learning theories.
The Minor in Biology is an attractive option for students with a major in another science or mathematics who wish to broaden their base knowledge and strengthen their degree. The option is available for all students and has been completed by students majoring in Anthropology, Art, Environmental Studies, and Psychology.
The Specialization in Biology is an excellent choice for Childhood or Early Childhood Education majors with an interest in science education at the primary level. This option strengthens the degree of the student as schools often seek teacher candidates with a strong background in the Natural Sciences.
We offer two bachelor degree options (B.A. or B.S.), a minor, and a specialization.
