Literacy Learning in Action Workshop: Knowledge Building

This workshop is sponsored by the St. Lawrence Valley Teacher Learning Center and is open to all education students. It is part of a Literacy Learning in Action Workshop series that will be held throughout the academic year. Participants will include SUNY Potsdam students and staff, as well as local teachers! Please join us for this professional workshop to deepen your literacy instructional practice. Comprehension depends as much on what students already know as on how well they can decode. This workshop explores how building background knowledge across content areas strengthens reading comprehension and vocabulary growth. Participants will examine knowledge-rich curricula and practice designing thematic units that layer content knowledge over time. You'll leave with strategies and resources for weaving knowledge-building into your literacy block.
