Literacy Learning in Action Workshop: Reading Comprehension, Part 1

This workshop is sponsored by the St. Lawrence Valley Teacher Learning Center and is open to all education students. It is part of a Literacy Learning in Action Workshop series that will be held throughout the academic year. Participants will include SUNY Potsdam students and staff, as well as local teachers! Please join us for this professional workshop to deepen your literacy instructional practice. Reading comprehension is a complex skill built from many interacting parts. In the first installment of this three-part series, we'll unpack the foundations of comprehension instruction, including the role of background knowledge, vocabulary, and text structure. Participants will analyze sample texts to identify comprehension demands and instructional entry points. You'll leave with a framework for planning comprehension instruction that you'll build on in Parts 2 and 3.
