Literacy Learning in Action Workshop: Reading Comprehension, Part 2

This workshop is sponsored by the St. Lawrence Valley Teacher Learning Center and is open to all education students. It is part of a Literacy Learning in Action Workshop series that will be held throughout the academic year. Participants will include SUNY Potsdam students and staff, as well as local teachers! Please join us for this professional workshop to deepen your literacy instructional practice. Building on Part 1, this session dives into explicit comprehension strategy instruction—including predicting, questioning, and summarizing. Participants will practice modeling these strategies using the gradual release of responsibility and will design lessons that make thinking visible for students. We will also focus on assessing and supporting comprehension for readers who struggle despite strong decoding skills. Participants will practice using diagnostic questioning and text-dependent tasks to pinpoint where comprehension breaks down.You'll leave with strategy-specific lesson plans ready to use in your classroom.
