Literacy Learning in Action Workshop: Systematic and Explicit Phonics

This workshop is sponsored by the St. Lawrence Valley Teacher Learning Center and is open to all education students. It is part of a Literacy Learning in Action Workshop series that will be held throughout the academic year. Participants will include SUNY Potsdam students and staff, as well as local teachers! Please join us for this professional workshop to deepen your literacy instructional practice. A well-sequenced, explicit phonics scope and sequence gives every student access to the code. In this session, we'll explore what makes phonics instruction systematic and explicit, and how to deliver it with fidelity. Participants will practice teaching sample phonics lessons using a gradual release model. You'll leave with a scope-and-sequence reference and a set of ready-to-teach phonics lessons.
