Assistant Professor of Music Theory & Composition Vacancy

The Crane School of Music is accepting on-line applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Music Theory and Composition to begin fall 2019.

Teaching responsibilities include: a significant commitment to core music theory and aural skills classes in addition to composition lessons and related courses, working with students in the Musical Studies degree focusing on composition or theory, and possibly teaching electives in the candidate’s area of expertise and/or courses for non-majors or online courses. Student advising, service, and continued professional engagement are expected as part of the position.

Completed doctoral degree in composition and/or theory, and relevant teaching experience are required. The person in this position will be expected to possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with a diverse student body and within an increasingly diverse campus community. Preferred qualifications include evidence of substantial college teaching experience beyond the teaching assistant level; excellence and/or promise in the field of composition; work, research or teaching involving underrepresented groups; and willingness to work collaboratively across various departments to foster the success of underrepresented groups.
