Becoming an Approved CHS Instructor

To become an approved CHS instructor, please follow the instructions provided on the Course Approval Process page.

Course Syllabus

The course syllabus should follow closely those used for on-campus courses. The syllabus should include:

  • Course name and number
  • Course description
  • Faculty name and contact information
  • Prerequisites and co-requisites
  • Number of lecture/contact hours per week the course will meet (e.g., two 1-hour lecture periods and one 3-hour lab)
  • Credits allocated
  • Course objectives (i.e., assessable student learning outcomes)
  • List of assignments and each assignment’s percentage of grade
  • Method of assessing student achievement including assessment rubrics
  • Basis of grade determination, including grading scale Sample departmental syllabi are available on request. Please contact earlycollege@potsdam.edu.

Grading

Student grades for those students who are participating in the CHS program to earn college credit for your class are due at the completion of the course and should be submitted by email to the Office of Graduate and Continuing Education at earlycollege@potsdam.edu using the 4.0 grading system. Details about SUNY Potsdam's grading system are available online. For assistance converting grades to a 4.0 scale, please refer to this chart (PDF).

For courses offered only in the first half of the year, please submit grades by the first week of February. For courses that are offered over the entire year or in the spring only, please submit grades by the first week of July.
