SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music Hosts Visiting Master Teachers Melissa Natale-Abramo ’97 & Joseph Michael Abramo ’99 from Feb. 24 to 27

SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music will host two of its own alumni during the Spring 2020 Joy Anthony Douglass ’56 Visiting Master Teacher Program. This semester’s program will focus on a critical examination of tradition and diversity, with a special emphasis on power and innovation.

Middle States Accreditation

SUNY Potsdam is embarking on a 3-year re-accreditation process with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE).  This process will entail an evidence-based self-study of our college, focused on a thorough assessment of our self-identified campus priorities. In addition, we will need to demonstrate that we meet the seven standards outlined by MSCHE.  This process will culminate with a campus visit by an external evaluation team in Spring 2022.

Crane School of Music Faculty Honor Women’s Contributions to Music in Upcoming Recitals & Lecture

In 1886, Julia Etta Crane founded the first institution devoted exclusively to preparing American music educators, at her alma mater, Potsdam Normal School. That same year, the U.S. Senate overwhelmingly defeated an amendment to grant voting rights to women. It wasn’t until 1920 that the Nineteenth Amendment was ratified. By that point, Julia’s vision was a reality, and The Crane School of Music was well established.
