Founded in 1816! More than 200 years ago, the residents of Potsdam, N.Y., founded the St. Lawrence Academy – one of America’s first 50 colleges. Over the next two centuries, the college became a public university, eventually joining the new State University of New York system upon its founding.

About The Crane School of Music

Founded in 1886, SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music has a long legacy of excellence in music education and performance. Life at Crane includes an incredible array of more than 300 recitals, lectures and concerts presented by faculty, students and guests each year. The Crane School of Music is SUNY’s only All-Steinway institution.

Frederick W. Crumb Memorial Library

Crumb Memorial Library houses SUNY Potsdam’s main book collections, as well as research resources, faculty offices and the College Archives. Located on the second floor of the Lougheed Learning Commons, the Crumb Library is named for the longest-serving president in College history.

Dr. Jessica Pearson

Fresh out of college with a degree from Princeton University in 2001, Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies Dr. Jessica (Rogers) Pearson was offered a job in Kenya to conduct research on zebras in a remote region four hours north of Nairobi. Her task? Photograph hundreds of zebras, to determine their migration patterns.
