Bear Pride Night

Last Friday, the North Country was blanketed in snow, but that didn’t stop the crowds from pouring into Maxcy Hall to support the Potsdam Bears for the 17th Annual Bear Pride Night. The tripleheader featured the women’s basketball, men’s basketball and women’s hockey teams as they faced off against Buffalo State. The evening contests also celebrated the 34th annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD)—an event that began in 1987 to celebrate and remember Olympic volleyball player Flo Hyman for her athletic achievements and her work to assure equality for women's sports.

"We started Bear Pride Night back in 2004 as an attempt to bring more fans into the stands, as well as to engage our alumni, inviting them back for a night at the alma mater.  We’ve always tried to have it on a Friday evening when we have a bears’ tripleheader for hockey and basketball."
