April 15: Essential Employee Face Covering Requirement

Good Afternoon,

This email is being sent to individuals who have been deemed as essential employees.

On April 12, 2020, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced in an executive order that for all essential businesses, any employee who is present in the workplace shall be provided and shall wear a face covering when in direct contact with customers or members of the public. SUNY Potsdam is considered an essential business.

This requirement goes into effect on April 15, 2020 at 8:00 PM. SUNY Potsdam has kits available for essential employees that are reporting to campus. Included in the kit will be hand sanitizer, a surgical mask, thermometer, and instructional guidance. We are waiting for cloth masks to be delivered and a surgical mask is deemed appropriate for the time being. If any essential employee is working on campus, they must obtain their kit and wear the face covering.

Kits can be obtained in the lobby of Raymond Hall or by contacting Eric Thompson, Director of Environmental Health & Safety at 315-267-2596. Employees are permitted to wear their own face covering.  If an employee has a health condition that prevents them from using a face covering please contact Melissa Proulx, Director of Human Resources at 315-267-2086.

Please remember that a face covering is not a substitute for proper hand washing and social distancing. Employees should continue to be at least 6 feet apart and practice frequent hand washing.

Sincerely,

Melissa Proulx
Director of Human Resources
