Dr. Willie Williams brings an array of experience in higher education administration, classroom instruction, facilitation and training. Prior to becoming the Chief Diversity Officer at SUNY Orange he spent ten years at the University of Virginia (UVA) in administrative positions including: Learning and Diversity Manager, Associate Director for Diversity and CGAS Faculty Liaison and Director of Diversity Education and Outreach. At Pennsylvania State University's Abington campus he served as Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. At UVA he created and taught, Race and Social Justice in Engineering; Race, Gender and Diversity in the Workplace; "Mixed" Race Matters; and Diversity, Inclusion and Equity in Higher Education. Currently, he teaches Student Engagement in Higher Education at Northeastern University. Embracing equity and social justice are two central concepts of his doctoral dissertation-Black/white biracial student socialization in higher education. Active in the community, he has taught classes at Albemarle-Charlottesville County Jail, facilitated Dialogues on Race in the Charlottesville community and worked with gang members on the Gang Reduction through Active Community Engagement (GRACE) initiative. Since moving back to the Northeast, he was recently appointed to the Board of Directors for Safe Harbors of the Hudson in Newburg, New York. Dr. Williams earned a bachelor's degree in English from Shippensburg University (Shippensburg, PA), a master's degree in Organizational Development and Psychology from Saint Joseph's University (Philadelphia, PA) and a doctorate in Higher Education from the University of Virginia (Charlottesville, VA).
