COVID-19 update: Cases rising in St. Lawrence County

November 10, 2020

To the campus community:

Yesterday, St. Lawrence County declared a state of emergency in response to the rapidly rising numbers of positive COVID-19 cases in our area. Public health officials shared that our county has seen a sharp increase in active cases over the weekend, with 79 current active cases.

We have not yet seen a concurrent rise in cases here on our campus, although we will continue to track this constantly through our surveillance testing program.

The emergency declaration is intended to be a strong reminder to everyone to follow the five pillars of community response to stop the spread of the coronavirus:

  • Wear a mask
  • Practice social distancing
  • Wash your hands
  • Stay home if you are sick
  • Stay local

Our SUNY Potsdam community has worked hard to follow all of these pillars, and it is so important that we continue these efforts so that we can finish the semester safely. In addition to these measures, please continue to complete your daily symptoms trackers, comply with testing, avoid unsafe social gatherings and continue to be considerate of each other.
