Proper diacritics and other special figures must be applied to texts citing foreign languages. It is acceptable to put these in by hand if your word processor or typewriter doesn?t have the correct font.
Accents should be used on capitals as well as lower-case characters (except for the French preposition A).

Britishisms, such as colour, honours, emphasise, organise, crotchet, quaver, etc., should be avoided in American English. Students should be on guard for them when reading The New Grove II.
