Art Education

B.F.A. in Art Education Pre K - 12

The Art Education major prepares students for certification to teach art from grades Pre-K through 12.  The program admits students by application, and students must have a 3.0 grade point average at the time of admittance and maintain that average throughout their time in the program.  Students intending to pursue the B.F.A. in Art Education should first declare the Art Studio major.  Placement is conducted through the School of Education and Professional Studies at Potsdam.

Students will be able to:

  • develop the necessary dispositions to be a reflective practitioner of art education.
  • consistently use effective assessment tools to evaluate student learning.
  • exhibit the ability to communicate an understanding of the importance of the arts in society and in arts education.
