B.F.A. in Art Education Pre-K through 12
The Art Education major prepares students for certification to teach art from grades Pre-K through 12. Students must have a 3.0 grade point average at the time of admittance and maintain that average throughout their time in the program. Placement is conducted through the School of Education and Professional Studies at Potsdam. A portfolio review is not required to enter the program.
Outcomes
Students will be able to:
- develop the necessary dispositions to be a reflective practitioner of art education.
- consistently use effective assessment tools to evaluate student learning.
- exhibit the ability to communicate an understanding of the importance of the arts in society and in arts education.
- demonstrate a basic knowledge of art history.

Julia Jones '24 has continued to find her voice and pursue her dream of becoming an art teacher through the College’s art education program. She recently completed her student teaching placement at Ogdensburg Free Academy, an experience she will be using as a springboard to her career.
