M.S.T. in Inclusive and Special Education
The fully online Master of Science in Teaching degree in Inclusive and Special Education is an innovative, clinically rich program designed both career changers and recent college graduates seeking initial teacher certification in Students with Disabilities (All Grades). The 47-credit program has been designed to meet the regulations and certification requirements of the New York State Education Department, the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC).
Our sense of purpose is creating a space for you to feel successful and connected to your learning experience. Students receive individual and personalized attention from a faculty advisor who stays with you throughout the program, with fully online and asynchronous courses that meet the needs of everyone’s ever-demanding schedules.
The program can be completed in four, five or six semesters, allowing flexibility for our teacher candidates to balance their career goals and aspirations with the demands of their everyday lives. Courses will be offered in the fall, spring, and summer semesters, with both full-time and part-time options.
Outcomes
Students will be able to:
- Administer a variety of educational assessment tools in inclusive and self-contained classrooms, demonstrating competencies in collecting and analyzing data to effectively support the academic, behavioral, social and emotional development of students with special needs
- Demonstrate a solid knowledge base of the subjects and disability areas they will teach
- Evaluate the impact of cultural and social contexts on students’ behaviors to develop a responsive intervention plan
- Collaborate in team meetings to provide a culturally responsive manner with families, school professionals and communities to provide supportive programs and services.
