Instructional Design and Educational Technology

M.S. in Instructional Design and Educational Technology

The M.S. in Instructional Design and Educational Technology (IDET) is a fully online 30-credit-hour graduate program offered through the department of Business Administration. Courses in this program emphasize the creation and management of highly engaging in-person and online learning environments. Students will engage in hands-on, minds-on learning in courses that are designed around research and applied best practices from a variety of fields, including Learning Sciences, Education, Adult Learning Theory, Curriculum & Instruction, Digital Literacy and Educational Technology. All theory is coupled with real-world application and examples, and students implement and evaluate their designs in authentic learning environments. The skills and competencies in the program are fully aligned with the roles and responsibilities of practicing instructional designers.

Outcomes

Students will be able to:

  • self-assess their Instructional Design Professional Dispositions using a rating scale and explain their choices in written form.
  • identify an organizational problem, then design a 7-14 hour adult training program to address the problem, a core skill in a career as an Instructional Designer.
  • document their daily experiences and complete a weekly one-page reflection in their internship journal that documents their 100-hour internship.
  • work collaboratively with their site supervisors to design, deliver and evaluate a technology workshop based on an identified organizational need.
