Step by Step Driving Directions

 

Take Interstate 81 North just north of Watertown, and take Exit 48A toward I-781. Continue on I-781 for 4 miles, and then take Exit 4 for U.S. Route 11. Keep left at the fork to merge onto Route 11 North. Follow Route 11 North for approximately 64 miles, until reaching the Town of Potsdam. Once in the Village of Potsdam, keep right at the fork to stay on Main Street, and then once downtown, turn right onto Pierrepont Avenue, which turns into Route 56 South. From Pierrepont Avenue, turn left onto Potsdam Drive. There is a maroon and white sign at the entrance to the College. The Office of Admissions is located in Raymond Hall, the eight-story building in front of you. You may park in the lot on your left (Lot 1).

From all points south of Albany, travel on Interstate 87 North/NYS Thruway North. Take Exit 24 through the tollbooth in Albany, and continue north on I-87/The Adirondack Northway for almost 60 miles. Take Exit 23 heading towards Route 9/Warrensburg. From the exit ramp, turn left onto County Route 35 West. After 0.3 miles, turn right onto Route 9, traveling northwest. Drive 4 miles, until Route 28 North intersects with Route 9. Turn left at the yellow caution light onto Route 28 North. Follow Route 28 North for 44 miles, until reaching Blue Mountain Lake. You will notice that Route 28 North and Route 30 North are the same road from Indian Lake to Blue Mountain Lake. Once in Blue Mountain Lake, you will turn right onto Route 30 North. After driving 10 miles, you will enter Long Lake, and you will have to turn left to stay on Route 30 North. After another 22 miles, you will enter Tupper Lake. Once in Tupper Lake, you can follow signs for Potsdam, and turn right onto Lake Street. Lake Street turns into Route 3 West. Continue to follow Route 3 West for approximately 16 miles. At Sevey’s Corners, turn right onto Route 56 North. Take Route 56 approximately 33 miles, until SUNY Potsdam comes into view on your right. Turn right onto Potsdam Drive, after passing by the athletic fields and the clocktower building. There is a maroon and white sign at this entrance to the College. The Office of Admissions is located in Raymond Hall, the eight-story building in front of you. You may park in the lot on your left (Lot 1). (Note: Driving time from the Northway is approximately 2.5 hours.)

Depending on your approach from Interstate 87, you will either take Exit 37 or 38 to Route 374 West. Route 374 West will turn into Route 374 North. Follow Route 374 approximately 30 miles, until you reach Brainardsville. Make a left onto County Route 24/Brainardsville Road, and follow County Route 24 about 11.5 miles, until it intersects with Route 11, just east of Malone. Turn left on Route 11 Southwest, and follow it through town (Route 11 becomes Main Street through Malone). Turn left on Finney Boulevard, and then turn right at the first cross street onto Route 11B South. Follow Route 11B South for 36 miles, until you reach Potsdam. Once in the Village of Potsdam, make a left onto Park Street and continue straight through at the next light onto Pierrepont Avenue (follow signs for Route 56 South). Pierrepont Avenue turns into Route 56 South. From Pierrepont Avenue, turn left onto Potsdam Drive. There is a maroon and white sign at the entrance to the College. The Office of Admissions is located in Raymond Hall, the eight-story building in front of you. You may park in the lot on your left (Lot 1). (Note: Driving time from Exits 37 or 38 on the Northway is approximately 2 hours, 15 minutes).

You may choose to cross Lake Champlain via the Cumberland Head – Grand Isle (VT) Ferry (seasonal/has a toll), or by driving north and crossing at Rouses Point, NY (all seasons/no toll). If you choose to take the ferry, take Interstate 89 North to Exit 17. Turn right onto Route 2 West, and follow it for 10 miles. Turn left onto Route 314 North/Ferry Road and follow the road for 2 miles, then turn left onto Gordons Landing and board the ferry to Plattsburgh, NY. Once you are across the lake, take a right to follow Route 314 West for 4 miles, then use the right lane to merge onto Interstate 87 South. From there, follow the directions above (Coming from Plattsburgh). If you choose to drive via Rouses Point, take Interstate 89 North to Exit 21. Turn left onto Route 78 West and follow the road for a mile before turning right on Grand Avenue, which turns back into Route 78 West after crossing the river. Follow Route 78 West for 10 more miles. Turn right on Route 2 West and follow the road 6 miles, to cross the bridge into Rouses Point, NY. Turn left onto Montgomery Street, and then turn left at the intersection with Lake Street. Follow Lake Street for 0.8 miles and then turn right onto Champlain Street, which is also Route 11 South. At the traffic circle, continue straight and then take the first exit to stay on Route 11 South for another 6 miles. In Mooers, turn right onto Main Street, which turns back into Route 11 South. Follow Route 11 for another 21 miles, and then turn left onto Military Turnpike and take your first right onto Route 190 West. Follow Route 190 West for 10 miles, and then continue straight onto County Route 24/Brainardsville Road. From there, follow the directions above, beginning with following County Route 24 (Coming from Plattsburgh). (Note: Driving time from Burlington, VT is approximately 3 hours, for either route.)

Head west out of Ottawa on ON-417/The Queensway. From ON-417, take ON-416 South for 53 miles (86 kilometers) towards Cardinal, ON. Take Exit 1 and continue on ON-16 and then turning right at the signs for New York 37/Bridge to USA. Continue onto the Ogdensburg-Prescott International Bridge. The bridge accepts American or Canadian cash. Once in New York, bear right onto Route 812 South. Route 812 and Route 37 are the same for a few miles. From Route 812, turn left onto Route 68. Travel Route 68 for 17 miles (28 kilometers), until reaching Canton, NY. Turn left onto Route 11 North, then follow Route 11 for 10 miles (17 kilometers) until you reach the Town of Potsdam. Once in the Village of Potsdam, keep right at the fork to stay on Main Street, and then once downtown, turn right onto Pierrepont Avenue, which turns into Route 56 South. From Pierrepont Avenue, turn left onto Potsdam Drive. There is a maroon and white sign at the entrance to the College.
