Cole Fortier ’23

Cole Fortier ’23 ImageNot many student composers have the chance to hear their pieces play among the trees with birds adding their own harmonies. This, however, was the case for Cole Fortier ’23, a music composition and music education major at The Crane School of Music. Cole was commissioned by The Wild Center in Tupper Lake, NY, to create an electronic work as part of an immersive, outdoor audio installation last fall. Cole is grateful for the opportunity to express his creative vision through the composition program at Crane and looks forward to exploring more ways to share his music at Potsdam and beyond.

Cole’s growth as a composer and musician is supported in part by the Pay It Forward Scholarship Program at SUNY Potsdam. In recognition of his donors’ generosity, Cole reflected, “I deeply value the Potsdam community, and it makes me happy that donors are willing to support those attending SUNY Potsdam. This scholarship allows me to have less stress when doing what I love to do, growing as a person, and growing to help others. I am grateful to be a part of the Pay it Forward philosophy and will proudly carry that tradition.”
