SUNY Potsdam Department of Sociology & Criminal Justice Hosted Weeklong Day Camp from Aug. 3 to 8

SUNY Potsdam’s Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice offered a new hands-on learning opportunity for local high school students this summer, with the launch of its Criminal Justice Camp, held from Aug. 3 to 8 on campus.
The weeklong day camp gave students in Grades 9 to 12 the chance to engage with real professionals and gain insight into careers in law enforcement and related fields.
Participants took part in activities such as fingerprint analysis, forensic anthropology exercises, emergency vehicle operations, K9 unit demonstrations, self-defense and more. The program concluded with a mock trial and a crime scene mystery challenge, allowing students to apply the lessons they learned throughout the week, followed by a final ceremony.
“This camp offers students a unique opportunity to explore the field of criminal justice through hands-on experiences and direct interaction with professionals,” said lead instructor, Professor Dr. David Bugg. “We hope to inspire the next generation of leaders in law enforcement and related fields.”

The Criminal Justice Camp was offered from 9:30 a.m. to noon daily, from Monday, Aug. 3 to Saturday, August 8.
