SUNY Potsdam Department of Teacher Education Hosts Group from Saranac Lake Central School as Part of ‘Take a Look at Teaching’ Initiative
The Department of Teacher Education at SUNY Potsdam has a heritage of providing meaningful, real-life teaching experiences for its students and serving the local community. This legacy continued when pre-service teachers provided a glimpse into life on campus and the College’s teacher preparation programs for members of Saranac High School’s Take a Look at Teaching Club.
The high school students’ visit to campus on May 8 prompted questions ranging from how to get a roommate to how many classes are required each semester. SUNY Potsdam students enrolled in Dr. Holly Marcolina’s Introduction to Middle and Secondary Schools course participated in this experience during their culminating week of classes, supported by several childhood education majors who had just completed student teaching. Faculty members Dr. Holly Marcolina, Dr. Laura Brown, Dr. Pooja Saxena, K. Chad Graham, Melissa Cummings and Laura Griffin also supported the visit.
SUNY Potsdam offers highly regarded programs at the undergraduate and graduate level in all facets of education, from baccalaureate programs to new flexible online graduate programs and advanced certificates leading to initial or professional certification. The College is nationally accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).
The School of Education and Professional Studies at SUNY Potsdam has been preparing educators for more than 200 years. Today, that legacy of educational excellence also stretches to undergraduate and graduate programs in business administration, public health and human performance, to help students prepare for professions in the global economy.
