Crane School of Music Students Advance in Classical Singer Competition

Voice Students from SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music Headed to Next Round of Classical Singer Vocal Competition in Chicago

Six students from SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music are headed to the second round of the Classical Singer Vocal Competition, which will be held in Chicago next month.

The students include:

  • Ashlyn Barnes of Horseheads, N.Y.
  • Hannah Grabowski of Phoenix, N.Y.
  • Ben Johnson of Hellertown, Penn.
  • John Lynch of Schenectady, N.Y.
  • Gabrielle McCormack of Perrysburg, N.Y.
  • Kristina Strang of Seaford, N.Y.

The regional live round of the 2019 Classical Singer Vocal Competition was held at SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music on April 14. The winners will now proceed to the competition second finals, which will be held in Chicago beginning on May 23. If successful, singers who advance compete in the semifinals and finals, also held in Chicago, through May 26.

The regional auditions were conducted by Donald George, a professor of voice at The Crane School of Music. The other judges included Crane faculty members Nils Klykken and Colleen Skull.

The Classical Singer Vocal Competition offers $2.1 million in scholarships, $16,000 in cash awards, immediate written feedback and invaluable networking experience for participants, who can compete in classical or musical theatre categories for high school, intermediate or advanced university or emerging professionals.
