Dungeons and Dragons NYSCATE Presentation

February 9, 2024

SUNY Potsdam faculty, graduate students and alumni took part in the New York State Association for Computers and Technologies in Education (NYSCATE) North Country Collaborative conference at Clarkson University in November 2023.

The group representing SUNY Potsdam's Educational Technology Specialist, Instructional Design and Educational Technology, and
Management graduate programs presented "CritcalHit! Using Dungeons and Dragons as a Tool to Promote Digital Literacy, Teaching and Instructional
Design Skills," which was delivered live and online at the conference.

The presentation explored how players can develop measured risk-taking strategies and digital literacy skills to complete their quests through Dungeons and Dragons. It also explored how the role of dungeon master echoes the role of the teacher and instructional designer in creating unified learning narratives.

The presenters included three current instructors (Anthony Betrus, Steven Canning, Arpit Bawa), three students (Tami Beneduce, Sarah Koumourdas, Jason Koumourdas), one support staff member (Alex Gomez), and one alumnus (Edward Schneider).

The online presentation is now available on YouTube here.
