Graduate Assistant Vacancy in Residential Life Department

Residential Life is accepting on-line applications for a 10-month, optional live-on, temporary/part-time, Graduate Assistant (GA) to begin August 3, 2020, who will report to the Assistant Director (AD) and will serve as an integral member of the department.

The GA must be available to work 20 hours per week, 4 hours per day during traditional business hours. This person must be able to work on an independent basis with little supervision at times. The GA must also be able to collaborate on projects and tasks the Office of Residence Life completes. This person must be an effective communicator as they may be assisting people on the phone and in the office on a daily basis.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: oversee the department social media and assisting with other elements of department communication, assist with general office processes, serve as a student conduct hearing officer, programming and community building, committee work, and participation in departmental planning and decision making.

The position includes potential opportunities for significant involvement in the Department’s staff selection, training and development, and programming depending on interest and experience. Evening and weekend work is expected related to department processes. An earned bachelor’s degree and some experience in a student leadership role is required. The successful candidate must be an enrolled graduate student progressing towards a degree. Must be available to complete all work responsibilities during business hours (8 a.m. - 5 p.m.) in addition to some evening and weekend responsibilities. We are looking for someone who possesses excellent communication and organization skills, displays sound decision making, is an ethical leader, is a team player, and is genuinely interested in the success and holistic development of students. We are seeking candidates who possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues and who have demonstrated a commitment to creating, fostering and sustaining an inclusive environment in and out of the classroom.

Preferred qualifications include previous experience in Residence Life is strongly preferred. We are, especially, seeking candidates who have engaged in professional development activities to enhance knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion and have worked collaboratively across various departments in fostering success of underrepresented groups and a supportive and inclusive environment for all.
