About the Performance:

Since its premiere in 1791, Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” has continually fascinated artists and audiences alike. This mysterious, mystical fairytale tells the story of Prince Tamino and his friends as they rescue Princess Pamina, seek entrance into the Enlightened Brotherhood of the Sun and restore balance to the Kingdom of the Night. Filled with familiar tunes, and some of the most famous arias in classical music, “The Magic Flute” is always sure to delight and provoke.

This production explores the many themes of this enigmatic opera by setting the piece in the expressionistic world of the Weimar Republic—Germany between world wars. This surreal, minimalist production is sure to entertain as well as raise questions about our own understanding of truth, light and dark.
