Crane School of Music Faculty Honor Women’s Contributions to Music in Upcoming Recitals & Lecture
In 1886, Julia Etta Crane founded the first institution devoted exclusively to preparing American music educators, at her alma mater, Potsdam Normal School. That same year, the U.S. Senate overwhelmingly defeated an amendment to grant voting rights to women. It wasn’t until 1920 that the Nineteenth Amendment was ratified. By that point, Julia’s vision was a reality, and The Crane School of Music was well established.
A Method to the ‘Madness’: SUNY Potsdam Undergraduates Mentor Malone Middle School Students Through New Program
There is an old saying that the best way to learn is to teach. This month, students at SUNY Potsdam are following this age-old creed, as they help to empower Malone Middle School students through a series they’re calling Mentoring Madness. Starting today, the multi-day event will bring 35 SUNY Potsdam students to Malone over the coming weeks to conduct mentoring sessions meant to prepare sixth to eighth grade students for success.

Crane School of Music Hosts Renowned Pianist Awadagin Pratt in Concert on March 1
SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music is proud to welcome the world-renowned concert pianist Awadagin Pratt for an upcoming performance and masterclass. “Awadagin Pratt has played with world-renowned orchestras, performed at the White House, and is very active and recognized internationally as a concert pianist and a pedagogue,” said Dr. Young-Ah Tak, associate professor of piano and artistic director of the Crane International Piano Festival. “This is a rare opportunity to hear such a great artist.”

SUNY Potsdam Students Travel to Kennedy Center American College Theatre Regional Festival
Students and faculty from SUNY Potsdam’s Department of Theatre and Dance traveled to Cape Cod, Mass., in late January to participate in the Kennedy Center American College Theater Regional Festival. At the conference, students earned nominations and recognition for two of the department’s mainstage productions from the past year.
SUNY Potsdam’s New Long-Term Internship Covers the Cost of Tuition
A new long-term co-op internship program being piloted at SUNY Potsdam is covering the cost of in-state tuition. It’s also giving focused students a suite of skills, college credits and job experiences in human services work that go well beyond what they would take away from an average internship.
