CSTEP was created over 35 years ago and is funded by a grant from the New York State Education Department. The Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) is designed to increase the number of economically disadvantaged students who are pursuing professional licensure and careers in mathematics, science, technology, and health-related fields. In accordance with State Education Department (SED) guidance, student eligibility determinations are based on indicators of economic disadvantage, in alignment with applicable state and federal guidelines.

For a list of Professions, Licensed, Registered, or Certified by the Board of Regents please visit the Office of Professions website.

In order to be admitted to CSTEP, students must:

  • be a New York State Resident;
  • be at an economic disadvantage*
  • have an interest in pursuing a major, minor, or career in a CSTEP profession or STEM field AND
  • have earned a 2.00 or better cumulative grade point average. First year students can be admitted provisionally until GPA is established.
