Updated Masking Recommendations & Testing Reminders

April 19, 2022

Dear students and colleagues:

Along with other areas of Northern New York and Central New York, St. Lawrence County is currently experiencing an increase in COVID cases.

As a result, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has designated our county COVID-19 community caseload as “high.” In areas designated as having a high caseload, the CDC recommends that everyone, regardless of vaccination status, wear a mask indoors in public.

While SUNY Potsdam has not changed our campus policy, we do encourage everyone to carry a well-fitting mask with you and wear it while indoors with others.

In keeping with our Potsdam Pledge and out of care for one another, please continue to be courteous and understanding when people are wearing masks or ask you to wear one in their presence.

Masks continue to be required in Student Health Services, the College Counseling Center and the Community Testing Site.

As a reminder, anyone who is within six to ten days of recovering from testing positive for COVID or who has symptoms is still required to continue to be masked around others. Masks are especially encouraged for those with approved vaccine exemptions or those who have not yet received their boosters.

Please be vigilant and pay close attention to your health. If you are having any cold symptoms/allergy symptoms, please wear a well-fitting mask around others and get tested for COVID.

The free Community Testing Site in the Merritt Hall Gym is open Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Walk-in testing is available, or you can schedule an appointment online through Quadrant Biosciences.

Tests can also be scheduled at the following locations:

Thank you for all that you have done to support each other through this changing pandemic.
