About the Organization

The Green Teams Internship Program is a transdisciplinary internship program targeted to upper-level undergraduates coming from any discipline who are interested in sustainability. Green Teams are teams of five students out of 50 who serve corporations, organizations, non-profits, municipalities, and community groups to address sustainability issues by achieving deliverables requested by corporations and organizations. The PSEG Institute for Sustainability Studies is located on the Montclair State University Campus in the Center for Environmental and Life Sciences building.

Duties

My team and I needed to create solutions and recommendations on our sustainable deliverables written in our executive paper that was given to our company representative. Our "Ted-Talk" style presentation was presented to the general public. We were tasked with convincing Montclair State University Facilities that there is smart growth when investing in sustainable solutions for a thriving campus. This was a paid internship with long days starting at 9 a.m. till 6 p.m.

Summary

I was selected as a Green Teams Intern by the PSEG Institute of Sustainability Studies at Montclair University. I worked for Montclair State University Facilities in a team of five green team interns. I got to learn a lot on using Sustainability in the workplace through presenters in lectures halls about climate change and carbon accounting and through field trips. I researched and proposed solutions with experiments and surveys for our five decided deliverables in recycling, irrigation, move out waste, toilet and faucet sensors, and the Fill It Forward campaign. A robot was used to climatic factors around the campus to be analyzed to provide information to our company representative to better inform where irrigation would be needed to reduce the use of ground workers watering time. I was helping to spread initiatives on campus to start in the fall semester based on what was lacked with recycling bin confusions and lack of signage and video ideas. The Fill It Forward campaign was pushed as well with advertisement content through a poster and video shoot featuring me and Pebble the Pupscout the pet of the Montclair State University mascot, Rocky the RedHawk. I now want to go to graduate school.
