More than 250 student and faculty musicians from SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music join together each year to celebrate the holiday season with the annual Crane Candlelight Concerts. The holiday concert tradition began in the 1930s at what was then the Crane Institute of Music at Potsdam Normal School, and has continued to grow in prominence ever since.
The Crane Chorus and Crane Symphony Orchestra presents two performances in the Helen M. Hosmer Concert Hall. The 2018 concerts will be held on Sunday, December 2 at 3:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
SUNY Potsdam and The Crane School of Music invite you to join us for this family-friendly event. While both concerts are free, audience members are invited to bring a donation of canned goods or non-perishable items to benefit area food pantries.
Annual gifts to The Crane School of Music provide underwriting support which allows the Candlelight Concert to be made available on a national network of public television stations. Last year this underwriting support resulted in the concert being broadcast on 142 channels in 68 markets and 25 states nationwide, in 254 separate telecasts.
Thanks to the Gail and Richard Stradling Technology Endowment for The Crane School of Music, the concert’s evening performance is also broadcast live on The Crane School of Music YouTube channel. Wondering how you can support this holiday tradition? Donations to support the Crane Chorus Endowment are always accepted at the door, or can be given online, by visiting securegiving.potsdam.edu/giving, and indicating “Crane Chorus Endowment.”
