College in High School Course Approval Process

Each high school should select a primary contact person (typically a staff member from Guidance) who should submit a Partnership Form tracking all courses submitted for review. The Partnership Form should be submitted before the start of each academic year.

Course proposals are reviewed by the appropriate academic departments at SUNY Potsdam and you may be contacted for additional information by the department chair. Course proposals are evaluated for their academic rigor and adherence to the course student learning outcomes determined by the department. SUNY Potsdam faculty liaisons will visit College in High School classrooms once a semester (virtually or in person) and will be available throughout the year to assist instructors.

High school instructors interested in participating in the College in High School program should submit the following by email to earlycollege@potsdam.edu.

  1. Completed Instructor Information Form
  2. Instructor Resume or CV
  3. Course Syllabus (the syllabus must include measurable student learning outcomes; see syllabus sample and template below)

This information must be submitted for each course, each academic year that the high school instructor is requesting the course be offered through College in High School.

Decisions are communicated by the Office of Graduate & Continuing Education to the high school instructor and the school contact person is copied. Please note that if there is not a SUNY Potsdam faculty who can serve as liaison, we cannot approve the course.

The timeline will vary from year to year, given the academic calendar.
