All students who audition for The Crane School of Music are automatically considered for scholarships. Music scholarship award offers are made in March of each year for students applying for fall admission. Qualified applicants will typically receive notice about music scholarships around the third week of March, and these are communicated as an update to your financial aid package (the other parts of which are usually provided to you in February.) Last year, more than a third of incoming Crane students received merit-based music scholarships.
For students submitting a video audition, submission by the regular deadline (Sunday, February 21, 2027) is recommended for full consideration for music scholarships. Students can submit video auditions through Sunday, February 28, 2027, but those who submit video auditions after February 21 will be less likely to receive a music scholarship offer.
In addition to music scholarships, music students are fully eligible for academic scholarships through the SUNY Potsdam application process. The majority of music majors receive an academic award and quite a few music students receive both an academic and music award. All scholarships awarded to incoming students are designed to support you throughout your degree, as long as you remain a student in good standing (and, for music scholarships, as long as you remain a music major).
New York State residents may also be eligible for the Excelsior Scholarship, in addition to other kinds of financial aid. If you have further questions, please email crane@potsdam.edu or contact the SUNY Potsdam Financial Aid Office.
