The Research Foundation for SUNY, a separate non-profit corporation, was established to provide the fiscal authority and structure for the application and administration of grants or contracts in accordance with sponsor and State University of New York policies.

The Research Foundation is a private, nonprofit educational corporation whose primary responsibility is the administration of externally funded contracts and grants for and on behalf of the State University of New York. As such, it is not supported by state appropriated tax dollars, nor does it receive support services provided to New York State agencies.
