Built to Endure

During her sophomore year at SUNY Potsdam, Megan Mills ’26 started experiencing unusual symptoms. She would wake up feeling swollen and itchy. At first, she assumed it was something she had eaten—but over time, it became clear that something more serious was going on. When the semester ended, she returned home to Ontario, Canada, and quickly scheduled an appointment with her doctor.“He’s been my doctor forever, so when I said something was wrong, he sent me for a chest x-ray,” she said.

Lindsay Johnson '17

During her time at SUNY Potsdam, Lindsay was active in undergraduate research in chemistry. She performed research in organic chemistry, biochemistry and biophysical chemistry. In the Fall of 2016, Lindsay received an internship in Physical Therapy at Canton-Potsdam Hospital and Clifton-Fine Hospital. Lindsay reflected on her time at SUNY Potsdam saying, "These opportunities have given me real world experience, knowledge and connections that I would not have gained otherwise." Bringing The Quad to Their Screens

Each year, the Office of Campus Life offers SUNY Potsdam students a wide array of programming to help them feel at home, make new friends, grow as leaders and enjoy their college experience. During the pandemic, however, the Campus Life team was tasked with a complex predicament: How do you engage students in campus life when they are isolating in their dorm rooms or living miles away at home? The necessary solution was to go virtual, and their efforts were successful due to a combination of their team’s tremendous dedication and their programs’ donors and endowed funds.

IE&P Scholarships

Each year, the IE&P office seeks applicants for two scholarships. The IE&P office emails international students in the spring semester when the award applications are available.

Undergraduate Education Advising

Each year the Teacher Education Undergraduate Advising Office works with hundreds of students to answer questions concerning teacher certification programs and assist with their efforts to achieve educational success.

In the early 1970s SUNY Potsdam established the Reading Center in Satterlee Hall. The purpose of the center was to match college students' needs for experience with elementary students' reading needs. The program was informally named the Reading Clinic. Many students from northern New York benefited from this program for more than 20 years.
